Loft conversions are the most desired form of extending a home and they are a fantastic alternative to moving home. They truly provide homeowners with something few extensions elsewhere on a house can provide. Our team will answer all questions you have for your peace of mind including questions on building regulations, planning permission requirements and much more.

We offer a variety of different loft conversions as follows:

Velux Loft Conversions Palmers Green

Velux Loft Conversion Velux loft conversions are arguably one of the most popular types of loft conversions for homeowners. Over the years, we have successfully completed hundreds of velux loft conversions for people in the area. Velux loft conversions are one of the simplest and cheapest solutions for creating extra space within your existing property and works best when there is plenty of headroom in order to fully utilise all of the space available. In comparison to dormer and hip to gable loft conversions, velux loft conversions also required much less construction work and are likely to be completed quicker.

Dormer Loft Conversions Palmers Green

Dormer Loft Conversion Dormer loft conversions are a particularly good choice for terraced or semi-detached homes located in built-up areas. Here, the roof is extended vertically which helps to create ample headroom and therefore more usable floor space. Flat roof dormer loft conversions are in-demand currently which protrude straight from the roof and require minimal construction work. Pitched roof loft conversions are also a viable option and can be particularly popular for older properties.

Hip To Gable Loft Conversions Palmers Green

Hip to Gable Loft Conversion Hip to Gable loft conversions are essentially the replacement of the hipped end roof by a gable end. This type of loft conversion is suitable for any type of property with a hipped roof and are commonly seen on semi-detached houses, detached houses and bungalows. Safety always comes first with Apex Loft Conversions and we will make sure that this is a viable option before proposing any design and construction.

Loft Conversion PALMERS GREEN - FAQs

What is a Dormer Window?

A roof dormer window adds living space to a pitched roof. It’s the exterior part of the conversion; a square or rectangular section construction providing headroom beyond the slope of the ceiling and finished with a vertical window.

Having all this added space means there’s so much room for being creative with it. This is of course something we can chat to you about in more detail at the quotation stage. What is also important to consider, is the proportion of the dormer conversion against the size of your roof and the width and height of your house. It really is a fine balance getting more floor space and headroom in the loft conversion plans while still maintaining an original and natural appearance from the outside. Let us know exactly what you’re after and we will see what we can do. It is your vision we want to create, as close to it as possible.

How does the process at Apex work?

It can be difficult choosing who to work with for your loft conversion, but you do need to do your due diligence as, like many industries, there are some people who talk a good talk but simply cannot follow up with their actual work. We try to make it as easy as possible to access information about us, for reviews to be seen, and an easy way to be contacted so you can ask us any questions regarding your possible loft conversion.

We are proud to be able to make your dream a reality and have a wonderful portfolio to prove it. We have a fabulous reputation in Palmers Green and surrounding areas and this is something we strive to maintain. This means upholding high standards, carrying out quality loft conversions, and maintaining top quality standards too.

Upon your initial inquiry, we will arrange for our surveyor to visit your home to look at the space in question, answer any questions and take any measurements needed to formulate a thorough and accurate quotation. At this stage, we can also let you know roughly what is possible and also talk to you about your vision. With all the knowledge then in our armory, we can go back to our office in Palmers Green and construct a proper quote for you, which will be returned to you within one week.

If you feel you’re then in a position to appoint us, we’d then be delighted to formally put that in writing, send over some things to sign, and then ask for a 5% deposit of the quoted cost. The main reason for this is that we want to get the ball rolling with our architect who will visit and produce some detailed architectural plans within a few weeks. This deposit also means we can schedule an approximate start date and build time. We’ll then contact you a month before two dates: the erection of scaffolding and a confirmed start date shortly after. This way, the start date means the start of the loft conversion itself.

Our owner and MD, Daniel, upholds the highest of standards in converting lofts and because he loves the hands-on approach, he is on-site with every project, working alongside the team. It’s this level of care and attention that keeps us at the forefront of the industry. We will be with you every step of the loft conversion and also once the job is completed. We will provide excellent aftercare too. We really do hope you choose to work with us here at Apex Loft Conversions Palmers Green.

Do loft conversions need planning permission?

In the past, it has been necessary to get planning permission for a loft conversion, however in most cases now, it is not required. The laws for planning permission for loft conversions in England and Wales changed on the 1st of October 2008. Before then, a Total Permitted Development (PD) allowance was granted on a property to allow it to be extended before it would require planning permission: a maximum of 50 cubic meters for a terraced home and 70 cubic meters for a semi-detached home. A loft conversion could be constructed up to a volume of 40 cubic meters for a terraced property and 50 cubic meters for semi-detached before it required planning permission.

These maximum figures still do apply to loft conversions though. But before the law changed, if you already had a ground floor extension then the volume of the extension would be subtracted from the loft conversion allowance, which meant that in a lot of cases seeking planning permission for attic conversions was inevitable.

In addition, getting planning permission under old restrictions was always a minefield since different local authorities had different criteria on planning regulations. Under the new simplified planning laws, only a few loft conversions need planning permission. We want to try and make this as easy as possible for your loft conversion in Palmers Green so please get in touch with any questions you may have.
